How I Encourage Spam - And What Savvy Marketers Need To Know

I hate Spam, yet over the last few days that I created a flood of spam for myself and not in a typical way you'd normally expect.

Let me explain.

I’m on a lot of email lists for newsletters etc. and I accept that people will and should promote their products in their newsletters and they will do joint ventures, also a good idea. However, those joint ventures tend to occur between a fairly small list of folks and the result today was that I got the very same offer from six different people, a mini flood of spam . . . but I requested it.

For people trying to sell via joint venture and email, take note. Eventually you are going to have to take the same approach as direct mail and merge your lists and clean out the duplicates if you hope to keep people from unsubscribing.

Today I was very tempted to unsubscribe without even looking at who the email came from and that is dangerous to those who hope that I’ll remain a loyal customer.

The lesson: Be cautious about your marketing efforts, spam comes in many forms and you may be the lucky recipient of a lost prospect because after the third or fourth offer on the same day, they didn’t look, they just unsubscribed.
